SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Former Sacramento Superior Court Presiding Judge Michael G. Bowman will be acknowledged by hundreds of attorneys and judicial officers as he is presented with SCBA’s prestigious Judge of the Year award at the Sacramento County Bar Association’s Bench Bar Reception on April 25. The annual award is given to a judge who has enhanced our system of justice and served the Sacramento County legal community.

Appointed to the bench in 2013, Judge Bowman started his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in Bakersfield from 1988-1991, then spent the next 22 years as a private criminal defense attorney. At the Sacramento Superior Court, Judge Bowman was elected Assistant Presiding Judge in 2020 and assisted then-Presiding Judge Russell Hom in guiding the court through the COVID crisis. Assuming the office Presiding Judge himself in 2022, Judge Bowman guided the court through many improvements that gained statewide – and even national – attention.

The SCBA and greater Sacramento legal community are lucky to have Judge Michael G. Bowman on the bench. We are excited and honored for the chance to celebrate Judge Bowman’s achievements and impact on our profession. This year’s award is well deserved.
