ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) – The Elk Grove Senior Center, now serving 2,500 members, might be expanding, according to a letter to members from David Feinberg, president of the center’s board of directors.
Exiting membership is up from 800 members 10 years ago, Feinberg wrote in the Oct. 7 letter. The center is located at 8230 Civic Center Drive, Suite 140, Elk Grove.
“While this growth reflects the importance of the center to the community, it has also created challenges in meeting the needs of our growing senior population,” Feinberg said in the letter. “The board recognizes that expansion is necessary, and we are committed to exploring the best ways to move forward.”
Key questions for expanding are how and where, he said, so that members and the community are best served.
To help answer those questions, the board is planning to conduct surveys of members and others in the community to understand their needs and priorities, Feinberg wrote.
The board is planning, too, to hold public hearings to vet options and collect input for the development and execution of its plans.
The first public hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 2.
“I strongly encourage you to attend and share your thoughts, ideas and suggestions,” Feinberg’s letter to members says. “Your input is an important part of shaping the center’s future.”
The center is a nonprofit, and in no way is run by the city or any city department. The center, however, might partner the city and receive support from it. But the center is operated and governed separately.
Eligible seniors are generally 50 years old and older. And members can be from outside of Elk Grove, according to the center’s website.
Members with any questions are asked to get in touch with any board member. Feinberg can be reached at [email protected].
