ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Elk Grove Youth Baseball’s 10U Blue All-Stars had an incredible journey this season, which led them to the Cal Ripken World Series. They made history as Elk Grove’s first all-star team to make the Cal Ripken World Series, playing their games Aug. 6-15.

They started in the NorCal State Tournament and went undefeated, outscoring opponents 51-6. They then followed up in the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament again going undefeated (6-0), outscoring their opponents 53-13. In the championship game they won 7-2 to punch their ticket to the World Series in Virginia, showing just how dominant they could be.

“We’ve come close the last two years, as 8U we lost in the championship game of the regional tournament then at 9U we lost in the final four of the regional tournament as well. And to see them now punch through is awesome,” Head Coach David Beaudin said.

The dominance did not stop once they got to the World Series. They started out going 3-0 in pool play, winning games 4-2, 10-0 and  9-0, even earning the No. 1 seed in the Championship Bracket.

Their star pitching and defense performances allowed only a limited number of hits that ended two games in a shutout. In one game, Beckam Beaudin had a one-hit complete game shutout against Virginia.

Their first opponent in the Championship Bracket was Alabama in the quarter finals. In that game, they fought and played well. They just did not get the timely hits that they needed and fell 2-0, ending their season.

They put everything they had into the games they played, and although it was not the outcome they wanted, they finished fifth out of 28 teams from across the county and around the world. And they still outscored their opponents 23-4.

Players Caden “Champ” Townsend, Beckam Beaudin and Ryder Tolosano were named World Series Players of the Game in pool play. Townsend was even being named to the All-Defensive Team.

They went to compete, of course, but they also intended to have fun, essentially going on a 10-day vacation to play baseball against the best teams in the country and from around the world.

“To see them compete, not get scared and not falter is special because it's baseball, and baseball is a game of failure. And to see them come through time and time again, it was truly incredible not just as a coach but a parent as well,” stated Coach Beaudin.
