ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The Pleasant Grove High School football team hosted it second annual Clash at the Nest season kickoff and community fundraiser event on Friday, Aug. 1.

Dinner was served at 5 p.m. to allow the community to meet players, other families and coaches. Other tents and booths were set up for food or merchandise to help fundraise money. One table was set up to sell old varsity jerseys.

After dinner, both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams got ready to play in their inner-squad scrimmage.

Both cheer teams performed their routines for the supporters. Plus, the girls’ flag football team played an inner-squad scrimmage of their own.

It was an incredible turnout from the Pleasant Grove community. Fundraising money will go back to the team and the program. Continuing to build the foundation they laid in the previous season, the Eagles are looking to continue to strengthen the tradition of the school’s football team.

The event showed each of the teams that they have an entire community supporting them through it all for this upcoming season.

The junior football program received support as well.

As during the Junior Varsity’s inner-squad, they had a jersey ceremony for each team of the junior program.

Members of the varsity football team were paired up with players on each team and ran out onto the field to be introduced with their new jerseys for the season.

And just like high school, the junior program’s cheer teams performed before introducing the football teams. Their seasons started on Saturday Aug. 15, where they took on the Vacaville High School junior program at home.

Now that both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams have shown the Pleasant Grove community what is to come, they are going to continue to prepare for the upcoming season.

They start their season by playing their Week 0 game against Christian Brothers High School on Aug. 28, looking to build off the tremendous season they had last year.

The Eagles went 7-3 in the regular season and got to play in a post-season bowl game. Although they had lost key players that were seniors last year, there is still a confident feeling that Pleasant Grove has players who will step up when their number is called.
