ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - High school football is right around the corner and approaching fast. And two high schools celebrated by having a kickoff event to bring support to the teams and school leading into the 2026-27 school year.

Both Franklin High School and Laguna Creek High School hosted events to bring the community around the school together to have everyone looking forward to the upcoming season. Franklin’s started at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, right after the football team’s practice, and ended at 8 p.m. 

They had a DJ, solo raffle, silent auction and bingo for the people who came to support. 

Not only that, they also had five different food vendors to provide both food and drinks. 

Laguna Creek’s kickoff event, “Cardinal Saturday,” ran from 8 to 10 a.m. Aug. 8. The team had a full padded practice, as well as an intersquad scrimmage. They also gave out donuts, fruit and coffee, allowing friends and family to come out and watch, providing something to show what this year’s team is going to look like. 

Both Pleasant Grove High School and Elk Grove High School also will host kickoff events to promote their seasons.

Pleasant Grove will host its “Clash at the Nest” on Aug 14. It will start at 5 p.m., having dinner served first to be able to meet the coaches and players, then a scrimmage afterwards to end the night. 

Elk Grove, just like Laguna Creek, will host its “Blue and Gold Kick Off Dinner” the following day, Aug 15. But it will be in the evening at 6 p.m. 

With dinner, raffles, live and silent auctions as well as dancing, Elk Grove High is not just celebrating the start of the football season, but celebrating a milestone of 100 years of Elk Grove High School Football. 

American Football was introduced to Elk Grove High School in 1926, led by Head Coach Harold Cunningham.

He started a program when Elk Grove High School was the only high school in Elk Grove, and one of five high schools in Sacramento County at the time. 

In a century, Elk Grove High has built a storied football program, producing exceptional football players.
