ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The long-running Sunstroke Cup made its way back to Elk Grove, as the first of three events that the Elk Grove Surf Soccer Club will host during the 2026-27 school year.

The 100 teams competing in this event spanned from the age groups U8 all the way to U19. They played at three different locations (Laguna Creek High School, Pleasant Grove High School and Strong Park) so that each team is able to play without any delays between games.

Each team had a minimum of three guaranteed games before going into a bracket format depending on how many teams were in each age group.

Most of the teams that compete in the Sunstroke Cup are primarily from the Northern California region. The other two events are going to have teams that are more from the entire Northwest region.

The other two events are the 2026 Elk Grove Surf Fall Cup held on Sept. 26-27 and the 2027 Elk Grove Surf Cup held on April 24-25, 2027.

And even though school is starting up for the athletes, they are still going to compete in games throughout the course of the school year.

They will continue to grow their soccer skills and to provide an outlet for the players to train and to compete to improve their game.

The Elk Grove Surf Soccer Club takes pride in taking care of its players, making sure that each boy and girl is provided with a high level experience of soccer. This allows them to grow and strengthen not just their soccer skills, but their social and mental skills as well.

Each coach is not just taking pride in knowing the game of soccer, but also knowing how to coach kids who may have never played before. The kids they coach grow as players, and it allows the coaches to grow themselves in how to teach the sport they love.

The team sets them on the right path for when they get older and the competition starts to become tougher. It provides programs that will help the athletes grow depending on where they start.

Elk Grove Surf provides programs that help teach soccer to beginners that are as young as U4, all the way to competing against the best soccer players and teams on the West Coast. It even has a Surf Goalkeeping Academy, specializing in helping one of the most pivotal positions on the pitch.

It’s all about teaching the fundamental skills, no matter the age.
