ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The Elk Grove Animal Shelter has announced its “250 Adoptions for America’s 250th” campaign, a community-wide initiative to help 250 shelter pets find loving homes during the month of July in celebration of America's 250th birthday.

Throughout the month, the shelter is inviting residents to become part of this historic milestone by giving a deserving dog or cat a second chance through adoption. To encourage participation and make pet adoption even more accessible, adoption fees for all available pets will be reduced to $25 during the campaign.

“Our goal extends far beyond a reduced adoption fee,” said Animal Services Manager Sarah Humlie. “This campaign is about bringing our community together to create 250 life-changing success stories for pets waiting for a family. As our country celebrates 250 years, we’re celebrating the opportunity to give animals the freedom to begin a new chapter in a loving home.”

Every adoption includes a pet that is spayed or neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and licensed with the City of Elk Grove.

Throughout July, visitors will be able to track the community’s progress toward the goal of 250 adoptions through a special display in the shelter lobby celebrating each pet that finds a home. Community members are encouraged to visit the Elk Grove Animal Shelter Tuesday through Sunday to meet adoptable pets.

The $25 promotional adoption fee is also available for pets adopted through the Elk Grove Animal Shelter’s adoption center located inside PetSmart (8215 Laguna Blvd.) throughout the month of July.
