ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) – The Elk Grove Police Department released a statement on social media June 10 that an 18-year-old man is recovering in a local hospital after being shot on Raycroft Way (off Toscano Drive and Bruceville Road) Tuesday evening, June 2, around 10 p.m.
Investigators determined the victim and suspect, a 17-year-old male, were involved in an incident at a festival in Sacramento several days prior to the shooting.
On the night of the shooting, the victim, an 18-year-old male, arrived at the suspect’s residence with several friends reportedly seeking to confront the suspect in a fight. The group was met outside by the suspect and members of the suspect’s family.
According to detectives, the group began running from the area when the suspect chased after them. While running after the group, the suspect pulled a firearm from a backpack he was carrying and fired two rounds, hitting the victim once in the back.
The juvenile was arrested that night and has been charged by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office with assault with a deadly weapon (Penal Code 245(a)(2)) and additional firearms related charges.
