Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision on Florin Road

SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - On May 22, at approximately 2:35 a.m., Sacramento Communications Center (SCC) broadcasted a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on eastbound Florin Road, west of Florin Perkins Road.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 2:34 a.m., a vehicle was traveling eastbound Florin Road, west of Florin Perkins Road, at an unknown speed. A male pedestrian was within the eastbound lanes of Florin Road. It is unknown whether the pedestrian was crossing the roadway or standing within the traffic lanes.
As the vehicle approached the pedestrian, the driver was unable to see the pedestrian due to the darkness of the area. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, and the driver immediately pulled to the shoulder and called 911.
Upon arrival by first responders, the pedestrian was located within the eastbound lanes of Florin Road. Despite live saving efforts by first responders, the driver was declared deceased at the scene. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
Identification of the pedestrian will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office and released upon notification of next of kin. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigating officers.
The crash remains under investigation by the South Sacramento California Highway Patrol office.
