ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - More than 31,000 residents that are of the age 62 and older are estimated to live in Elk Grove, or about 17% of the city’s population. With many seniors on a fixed income and sensitive to changes in the cost of living, the city has launched a new Seniors Ride Free Pilot Program to reduce transportation costs for senior residents and encourage use of Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) for trips within Elk Grove.
This new program is scheduled to run on a trial basis through June 2027. Elk Grove seniors will be able to use their government-issued identification card, driver’s license or other valid identification to show proof of age and Elk Grove residence.
Seniors can ride any SacRT bus routes in the city or on commuter routes to Sacramento at no cost through the program.
