ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - As spring approaches, many residents look forward to hosting garage, yard or estate sales as a way to declutter and connect with neighbors. If you’re planning a sale, a quick refresher on the City’s guidelines can help ensure your event runs smoothly and remains compliant with local rules.

Under Elk Grove Municipal Code 23.92.020, residents may hold garage, yard, estate or other temporary outdoor sales up to four times per calendar year. Each sale may last for no more than two consecutive days and must take place within your home, garage or yard.

These limits are designed to balance flexibility for residents with consideration for neighborhood impacts such as traffic and parking.

Advertising signs for all temporary outdoor sales are also subject to rules. While signs may be used to direct customers, they may not be posted on utility poles or on any public property, including medians, street signs or sidewalks.

Proper sign placement helps keep public spaces safe, accessible and visually uncluttered. And don’t forget to collect your signs once you’re done with your outdoor sale event to avoid citations.
