ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Black-and-white spotted outfits, floppy ears and even inflatable cow costumes filled a new Chick-fil-A on Thursday, Feb. 19 as the restaurant marked its opening day by offering a free entrée to guests willing to dress the part.

Chick-fil-A is one of the nation’s largest fast-food chains, best known for its chicken sandwiches. The menu also includes tenders, salads, beverages and breakfast items.

Elk Grove is already served by a Chick-fil-A location at the Elk Grove Marketplace on Bond Road, with the nearest additional restaurant found at Delta Shores in Sacramento near Interstate 5.

Kyle Atwater, owner-operator of the Elk Grove Marketplace location, also operates the new restaurant at Wymark Drive and Elk Grove Boulevard. The fast-food spot is the first business to open at The Village shopping center, which remains under construction and is expected to be anchored by a future Whole Foods Market.

Atwater said he was excited that the restaurant brings about 50 jobs to the city and features a larger space than his other Elk Grove location. It also includes a third drive-thru lane reserved for mobile app orders, known as “Mobile Thru.”

“This has been a long time coming to get a second Elk Grove Chick-fil-A, a new one, on this side of town to better serve the west side of Elk Grove,” Atwater said. “It’s a great introduction to the new shopping center over here.”

In a Feb. 13 news release, Chick-fil-A announced the grand opening would also include a $25,000 donation from Chick-fil-A Inc. to nonprofit Feeding America in honor of the new restaurant. The funds will be distributed to partner organizations across the greater Sacramento area to help fight hunger.

The new location at Wymark Drive and Elk Grove Boulevard will also participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program, which redirects surplus food to local nonprofits.
