ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Planet Fitness held its grand opening on Feb. 11 at the Laguna 99 shopping center off Elk Grove Boulevard, welcoming current members and new guests to explore the gym’s amenities.

Since opening quietly in mid-January, the gym located at 8457 Elk Grove Blvd. has seen steady use of its facility by residents. During the grand opening, machines and workout areas were busy as members exercised, while some prospective guests explored the facility and its amenities.

The Elk Grove site now serves as the closest Planet Fitness location for local members, with the nearest alternative previously being located on Mack Road in Sacramento. The location has already drawn interest from residents who had been anticipating the opening as well as newcomers looking to begin their fitness journey.

 

The free-weight area at the back of the Planet Fitness Elk Grove location features kettlebells, dumbbells, resistance bands, stability balls and medicine balls.

The gym operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and offers two membership options: Classic and PF Black Card. Both memberships include access to a free fitness trainer, which can be scheduled through the Planet Fitness app, as well as free-weight equipment, a functional training room, a dedicated mobility and stretching area and full locker rooms with showers and private changing stalls.

The Classic membership costs $15 per month, while the PF Black Card is priced at $24.99 per month. The Black Card membership also includes access to the Black Card Spa, featuring Hydromassage loungers, massage chairs, tanning beds and red-light therapy machines. Both memberships currently offer a $1 down startup fee and include a $49 annual fee.

Planet Fitness Sacramento Area Director Marcus Herrera said the new location has been a natural fit for the city and has received good feedback from residents since opening in January.

“I think understanding that Elk Grove is an extremely active community, the demand for a 24/7 and affordable gym was something that we wanted to move into immediately,” Herrera said. “The community response so far has been amazing since we’ve opened.”

Herrera also emphasized the gym’s focus on offering a supportive atmosphere and access to quality equipment for those considering a membership at their location.

“The community environment that we have, along with being a judgment-free zone and the high-quality equipment similar to other gyms, with an affordable price sale, you can’t beat it,” he said.

Online reviews show many community members noted the long wait for the gym’s opening but shared positive impressions after visiting.
