Three Arrested Following Late-Night Catalytic Converter Thefts

ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - A vehicle carrying three suspects entered the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 10000 block of Bruceville Road at about 2 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 8. The suspects cut and stole two catalytic converters from separate vehicles.

On Feb. 10, a bulletin was sent to officers with photos of a suspect vehicle connected to a catalytic converter theft. The following night, officers spotted the same vehicle in the neighborhood south of Poppy Ridge and Bruceville roads.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and detained all three occupants: 38-year-old Johnson Ly, 33-year-old Shawn Vang and 38-year-old John Moua. During the investigation, officers learned the suspects had just stolen another catalytic converter in the area and were caught on camera.

All three were arrested on charges including Vehicle Code 10852 and Penal Code sections 487, 182, 466 and 666.1. They were booked into the Main Jail, later released on bail and scheduled to appear in court Feb. 16.
