SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - The Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra (SCSO) will present a rare live performance of Antonín Dvořák’s “Requiem on Saturday, March 7, at 3 p.m., with doors opening at 2 p.m., at the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center, 1301 L St., offering Sacramento audiences a unique opportunity to experience one of the composer’s most profound and least frequently performed major works.

Although widely regarded as one of Dvořák’s most emotionally powerful compositions, “Requiem is seldom performed in the United States due to the extraordinary musical forces it requires, including a large chorus, professional orchestra and four soloists. As a result, live performances of the work are extremely rare, making this concert a notable cultural event for the Greater Sacramento region.

“This is not a performance that comes around often,” said Donald Kendrick, Founder and Artistic Director of the Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra. “Dvořák’s “Requiem” is monumental in scale and deeply human in expression. Many audiences never get the chance to hear it live, and we are proud to bring this extraordinary work to Sacramento as part of our 30th anniversary season.”

The March 7 matinee performance will feature four acclaimed soloists — Leslie Katter (soprano), Silvie Jensen (mezzo-soprano), Salvatore Atti (tenor), and Craig Verm (baritone) — alongside SCSO’s large choral ensemble (190 singers), professional orchestra, and special guest chorus Schola Cantorum. Projected supertitle translations will be provided to enhance audience accessibility.
