ELK GROVE/GALT, CA (MPG) - The Cosumnes Fire Department welcomed 17 new firefighter-paramedics at their Fire Academy Graduation the evening of Thursday, Jan. 29 in Elk Grove. The graduates were to report to fire stations across southern Sacramento County starting that same week, helping the department meet the increasing demand for emergency services in the region.
The 23-week, state-accredited academy trained the recruits through tough physical and academic evaluations to prepare them for the realities of emergency response. Each recruit began the program with a paramedic license and a solid foundation in emergency medical care. Their training ensures they are ready to respond to calls with professionalism, skill and compassion.

Approximately 400 family members, friends and colleagues attended the graduation ceremony. In a meaningful tradition, each recruit selected someone significant in their life to pin their badge, symbolizing the trust and duty of public service. Cosumnes Community Services District General Manager Tim Ogden administered the loyalty oath, officially welcoming them as probationary firefighters.
The academy was made possible in part by funding from Measure E, a local sales tax that helps address public safety and quality-of-life services.
“Welcoming these 17 new firefighter-paramedics marks a proud and significant milestone for our district,” said Cosumnes Community Services District Board President Peter Sakaris. “As new members of our community family, their commitment to public service reflects the highest standards and values of our organization. We are grateful for the continuing support of Measure E, which enables ongoing investment in the safety and well-being of our residents.”
