ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Over the two days of Jan. 27 and 28, history was made on the wrestling mat while broken records were being honored on the basketball court and soccer field at Pleasant Grove High School.

The Jan. 27 wrestling duals were not just for Pleasant Grove’s senior night but for the Delta League Championship.

The boys’ teams for Pleasant Grove and Elk Grove were both 5-0, while the girls’ teams from Elk Grove and Cosumnes Oaks were both 5-0. Whichever team won was going to be named the Delta League Champion.

All four teams had proven success throughout the year to get to this point.

The dual between the rivals of Elk Grove and Pleasant Grove was a battle with high energy on both sides. But the Thundering Herd was able to overpower the Eagles the longer the dual went on.

Elk Grove went on to win the Delta League Championship for the boys’ team, making it the Herd’s 24th consecutive year winning their league championship.

And although Pleasant Grove came in second in the Delta League, it still qualified to wrestle in the Section Dual Championships. This was the second time in school history that the Eagles qualified.

Though the boys’ dual was a battle, the girls’ dual was a war. Each girl left it all on the mat, knowing that each match was important.

And once each match was over, the Wolfpack was standing as tall as they were victorious. They were able to bring home the school’s very first Delta League Championship, where all the hard work and dedication paid off in beating a dominant team like Elk Grove.

Then, on Jan. 28, Pleasant Grove Athletics was proud to honor two of its athletes as all-time leading scorers in their respective sports.

During senior night for the girls’ soccer team before playing Monterey Trail, the Eagles recognized Adalynn Alley for her hard work and dedication in becoming the all-time leading goal scorer for girls’ soccer at Pleasant Grove with 51, as well as being a three-time All Delta League player.

During the game, she was also able to score a goal to push her career goal count to 52 and counting, as this was not her last game of the year.

While the soccer game was going on, Kate Myers was being honored for recently becoming the all-time leading scorer in girls basketball at Pleasant Grove with 1,469. Myers started all four years on varsity and became a three-time All Delta League Player.

Myers was able to push her total count to 1,491 after scoring 22 points in an overtime loss to Monterey Trail.

Both Alley and Myers are looking to continue to score as much as possible with the final games of their senior seasons approaching. They aim to put exclamation points on their record-breaking high school careers.
