SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui earned a commanding majority (57%) of votes in the California Democratic Party’s pre-endorsement process, demonstrating strong grassroots support and significantly outpacing her nearest opponent’s 34%. The final endorsement decision will be made at the California Democratic Party convention next month.

“This overwhelming result demonstrates how Congresswoman Matsui’s proven track record of delivering results and her unwavering commitment to standing up against Donald Trump’s dangerous attacks on health care and immigrants are resonating throughout our region,” said Will Antinetti, campaign manager for Matsui for Congress. “Her broad coalition of support, from progressive party delegates to community leaders and local small businesses, clearly shows she’s the right person to continue championing our values and priorities in Congress.”

Doris Matsui represents California Congressional District 7, which encompasses the heart of the Sacramento region. As a result of Proposition 50, the boundaries of the 7th Congressional District will change, retaining areas such as downtown Sacramento, Elk Grove, Galt and Rancho Murieta, while incorporating areas in and around Lodi, El Dorado Hills and Placerville.
