Elk Grove Team Celebrating Win Against Laguna Creek

It started with Elk Grove facing Laguna Creek, where both teams for Elk Grove showed the dominance that had appeared all year, jumping to a quick lead and not looking back.

Both Elk Grove teams had beaten both of Laguna Creek’s. The boys’ team had only lost one match where the final score was 74-6 and the girls teams won 40-30.

Both teams for the Thundering Herd were able to take a break while Sheldon faced Laguna Creek. Both teams for Laguna Creek beat both of Sheldon’s teams.

This pushed Laguna Creek’s boys’ team to 1-3 against Delta League teams in duals, while the girls are 2-2 on the season.

After coming out of the break, Elk Grove did not skip a beat when facing Sheldon. Its boys’ team only allowed six points while it scored 74. The girls’ dual was a much closer fight, with Elk Grove winning 30-28.

Sheldon’s boys’ team fell to 0-4 on the season while the girls’ team is now 1-3 after losing to both Elk Grove and Laguna Creek.

Now both Elk Grove teams are 4-0 getting closer to the postseason.

Elk Grove started the season with senior Skye Jordan being ranked No. 8 in the state; she is now ranked No. 6, where it seems she places in the top three week in and week out, placing third at the West Coast TOC, while placing first at both the Napa Classic and the Contest of Champions.

Elk Grove is consistently placing multiple wrestlers in some of the hardest tournaments in California. The Herd placed six wrestlers in the top six at the Sierra Nevada Classic, which has competition from California, Nevada, Utah and Oregon.

And it had six places in the top 10 at the Tim Brown Memorial, with Isaiah Gonzaga placing first, as well as seven in the top five at Deets Windslow, with both Paul Portugal and Vinh Ta placing first.

Elk Grove looks to finish the way the season started as it looks forward to entering the postseason.
