ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Every building has a history, and 9039 Elk Grove Blvd. stands as one of the oldest and most beloved buildings in Historic Main Street. Known today as Bob’s Club, this two-story, wood-frame building has been a gathering place for nearly 150 years.
Originally constructed in 1876 as the Elk Grove Hotel, the building quickly became a hub where locals gathered to socialize and listen to baseball on the radio, a tradition that continues in spirit today.
The building also holds a remarkable story of survival. In July 1892, a fire sparked by a passing train destroyed most of the west side of town. Only two commercial buildings endured the flames, one of them was the Elk Grove Hotel, later to become Bob’s Club.
Over the years, names and ownership have changed, but the character has remained constant. Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, the California Register and the Local Register of Historic Resources, the building has continuously housed a bar for almost a century and a half, with Bob’s Club proudly carrying that legacy for more than 70 years.
Today, visitors can still admire its historic architecture and step inside to experience the same welcoming atmosphere that has defined it for generations.
Next time you’re on Historic Main Street, take a moment to stop by and admire this remarkable piece of Elk Grove’s history.
