ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - A 17-year-old was arrested following a shooting at the Taco Bell at 8750 Elk Grove Blvd., near Dollar Tree and across from Chase Bank. Police say the case remains under investigation.
In a social media post the evening of Jan. 15, Elk Grove police reported a shooting in the restaurant’s parking lot that left one person hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Shortly after 10 p.m., the Elk Grove Police Department posted an update under the initial post identifying the victim as a 19-year-old employee who was seated in their vehicle during a work break.
Police stated that the suspect drove up next to the victim and the two engaged in a conversation. During that interaction, the suspect shot the victim inside the vehicle and fled the scene.
Authorities reported the victim then drove to the fire station across the street before being transported to a local hospital. The post did not mention whether the victim and suspect knew each other.
The following morning, at 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, police said the suspect’s vehicle was located at a home in the southwest part of town. The suspect, a 17-year-old, was subsequently arrested and booked into juvenile hall.
“The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation,” the department said in the post. “Strong teamwork and solid police work allowed officers to quickly find the suspect and take him into custody.”
