ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The Pleasant Grove Eagles, hosting the red-hot Sheldon Huskies on Jan. 16, entered the game just under .500 with a record of 9-8 and 0-2 in league. In their previous game they had lost to Franklin 62-51.
The Eagles were looking to get back into the win column, but it was going to be one of their hardest tests on the year.
The Huskies coming into the game are one of the best teams in the state. They have a tremendous overall record of 15-3 and 3-0 in league play. They looked to keep their seven-game win streak and extend it. Their last loss came Dec. 23 to Village Christian 77-68.
Sheldon’s No. 5, KJ Brooks, and Pleasant Grove’s No. 4, Myles Houston, are poised for the tip-off.
The Huskies won the tipoff and started fast, using size and speed to control the game right away. They forced the Eagles to play fast, which had forced them to make mistakes. The Huskies took advantage of every given opportunity.
Sheldon held a 17-point lead after the first quarter and only gave up two points.
The Eagles were able to find a spark going into the second quarter; however, they still needed to stop Sheldon’s offense. But the Eagles continued to play lights out, extending the lead to 21 going into halftime.
After halftime, the Huskies kept the lead, playing hard on both sides of the court as well as all four quarters.

Sheldon’s top three performs were junior No. 1 Baron Sabir 19 points; senior No. 20 Zech Beaty with 19 points, five rebounds and two steals; and junior No. 5 Kejshaun “KJ” Brooks with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Although it was not a good game for the Eagles, they still fought hard throughout. Senior No. 3 Christopher Bill did his best to provide a spark as he finished the game with 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
This game dropped Pleasant Grove to 8-10 on the season and 0-3 in league play. The Eagles are looking to turn it around and finish strong with only three weeks left in the season.
Sheldon, on the other hand, is looking to continue to show its dominance through the rest of the season into the Section Tournament and hopefully the State Tournament.
