ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The online application period for three city grant programs supporting local nonprofit organizations will open Friday, Jan. 9 for funding allocated in next fiscal year (FY 2026-27). 

The Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and Community Service Grants (CSG) programs offer funding for public service activities, housing programs and public facility improvements.

The Community Development Block Grants program, supported by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, funds housing and community development activities that primarily benefit low- and moderate-income persons. Since 2003, the city has used Community Development Block Grants funds to partner with community-based organizations to expand and enhance critical services for income-qualified residents. Funded activities have included senior nutrition programs, case management, youth services, landlord/tenant and fair housing counseling, accessibility improvements and emergency and transitional housing, among others.

The Community Service Grants program is a locally funded grant program that supports a wide range of public service and arts related activities serving Elk Grove residents. Funding from this program has provided emergency food distribution, services for residents experiencing homelessness, operational support for senior and youth programs, and other activities. 

Both grant applications will be due on Feb. 9.

Event Sponsorship Grants (ESG) are available for organizations planning special events in Elk Grove that have city-wide significance between July 1 and June 30, 2027, and that benefit the Elk Grove community. This program provides assistance through direct funding, city facility use, in-kind services or a combination of these options. Event Sponsorship Grant applications will be due Feb. 20.

A technical assistance webinar will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 20 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. to assist applicants for CDBG, CSG and ESG programs. City staff will provide an overview of the eligibility requirements and application process and offer technical assistance to prospective applicants. Applications for all grant programs will be accepted exclusively through the city’s online application process. More information and a link to the applications can be found at elkgrove.gov/grants. Amounts awarded for FY 2026-27 are subject to funding and city council approval through the annual budget process.
