ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The Elk Grove Animal Shelter is inviting the community to open their hearts and homes this season through its Home for the Pawlidays Dog Foster Event on Wednesday, Nov. 26, from noon to 5 p.m. at 9150 Union Park Way. Community members are encouraged to drop in at any time during event hours to be matched with one of our 60 shelter dogs.
The shelter often experiences increased intake heading into the winter months. Temporary foster homes play a critical role in reducing kennel stress, creating space for new arrivals, and giving dogs a warm, quiet place to decompress. Even a few days outside the shelter can make a meaningful impact on a dog’s well-being.
During the event, shelter staff and volunteers will be on hand to match families with dogs that fit their lifestyle. Same-day foster approval will be available, and all supplies, including food, medical care, leashes, and crates (as needed), will be provided.
“Holiday fostering gives our dogs the gift of comfort, rest, and companionship during a time that can be particularly stressful in the shelter,” said Animal Services Manager Sarah Humlie. “We’re hoping community members will consider opening their homes for even a short break, it makes a life-changing difference.”
The shelter welcomes anyone interested in fostering, regardless of previous experience. The goal is simple: help as many dogs as possible enjoy the holidays in a home instead of a kennel. Help our shelter dogs land a home, even if it’s just for the Pawliday!
