ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The Fade Room is inviting community members who need help feeding their families this holiday season to stop by for a free haircut and grocery giveaway from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23.

Owner Dwayne Love said that the barbershop regularly hosts community events to support neighbors and youth in need. He noted that the recent impact of the government shutdown on several residents motivated him to organize another event to help ease the hardship that local households are facing by providing holiday meal essentials such as turkeys among other grocery items.

“Here at The Fade Room, we just want the community to know that we have their backs and that we’re in this together,” Love said. “Because without the community, there’s no Fade Room, so whenever we have a chance where we can give back, we do so with excitement.”

Love said that his commitment to hosting these events comes from his own childhood, when he experienced how much of a difference that small businesses, organizations and churches made by giving back.

Now that he is a business owner, Love said, he is grateful to be able to offer that same support to his community.

“I understand how tough things could be at times, and I’m a person that’s in a position to be able to give back so I sincerely hope that this can reach people and that it can help somebody,” Love said, adding that the event is meant for those genuinely in need and that distribution will be limited to one bag per family to ensure fairness.

The community giveaway is first-come, first-served and will take place at The Fade Room, 9643 E. Stockton Blvd., in the Elk Park Village Plaza.
