Laguna Creek is looking to score.
ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The last of the regular season high school football games were played on Oct. 30 and 31. Not only were they the last regular season games, they were the last of the senior night games as well.
Pleasant Grove High School traveled to play Laguna Creek, Elk Grove went to play at Monterey Trail and Franklin went to Cosumnes Oaks.
Franklin was coming off a BYE week before playing Cosumnes Oaks, while the Wolfpack was looking to finish the season with a victory after losing to Monterey Trail the week before.
The Wildcats were able to score twice in the first quarter to take the lead 14-0, along with shutting down the Wolfpack offense. Franklin was able to extend its lead in the second quarter by scoring another touchdown. However, Cosumnes Oaks was able to return the following kickoff for a touchdown, showing the Wolfpack was not done fighting with the score at 22-8 at halftime.
Once the second half started, both teams traded scores in what seemed to be a positive second half for both of them.
But the second quickly started to turn sour for the Wolfpack as Franklin started to pull away with the game. The Wildcats’ offense kept scoring and their defense was able to shut down the Cosumnes Oaks offense, ending the game 48-14.

Elk Grove was looking to have the same success in ruining a senior night like Franklin, but Monterey Trail had shown why they are the best team in the Delta League.
The Mustangs’ defense put the Elk Grove offense in a box the whole game, not allowing the Herd to score. Monterey Trail’s offense was able to do what they needed to do: score multiple touchdowns in the first half.
Coming into the second half, the Thundering Herd defense was able to wake up and not allow any more points. However, the damage was done, and the Elk Grove offense could not get anything going.
The game ended with Monterey Trail winning 20-0.
The game between Pleasant Grove and Laguna Creek was played on Thursday Oct. 30, instead of Friday.
This game began with an offense-filled first half, with Laguna Creek striking first with a touchdown, then having its PAT attempt be blocked by the Eagles.
Pleasant Grove in response was able to score two touchdowns before the end of the first quarter. During the second quarter both teams were able to score two touchdowns each, bringing the score to 28-20 before halftime with Pleasant Grove ahead.

Once the second half had started, both defenses emerged and limited the others’ offense. But the Cardinals were able to score to tie the game at 28-28 before the fourth quarter.
After battling during the last quarter, Pleasant Grove was able to kick a field goal to take the lead, but also gave Laguna Creek a chance to either tie or win the game.
However, the Eagles defense was able to close with a game-winning interception, ending the game 31-28.
While two of the three games ended with a spoiling of senior night and the ending of the regular season, five teams of the Delta League will have postseason games.
Pleasant Grove, Elk Grove, Franklin and Laguna Creek all have the opportunity to play in a bowl game on Friday, Nov. 7. Monterey Trail earned a spot in the Division 1 Playoffs and will play Friday, Nov 14.
