ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The PG&E Corporation Foundation announced that 54 students from hometowns across Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) Northern and Central California service area will receive 2025 Better Together STEM Scholarships.

Among the awardees are Mengnan Sun of Elk Grove, who received a $10,000 scholarship. Sun is majoring in environmental engineering at Stanford University and is a 2025 graduate of Cosumnes Oaks High School.

The PG&E Corporation Foundation (PG&E Foundation) is sponsoring scholarships of $10,000, $5,000 and $2,500. These charitable donations come from PG&E shareholders, not PG&E customers.

The scholarships are awarded to students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines. STEM education fosters ingenuity, creativity, and experimentation leading to innovations and technological advancements that can have global impact.

“I’m very grateful for the PG&E Better Together STEM Scholarship because it lifted the financial burden of my family and gives me the chance to continue my STEM studies in college,” said Sun. “It’s also a recognition of my passion for STEM and motivates me to keep working hard and to give back to my community in the future.”

Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, demonstrated participation and leadership in school and community activities, and financial need.

“We are so grateful to be able to help lessen the financial burden of college for local families by supporting these ambitious students as they pursue their higher education goals and dreams,” said Joe Wilson, vice president of PG&E’s North Valley & Sierra Region. “These scholars pursuing STEM fields are tomorrow’s innovators and leaders whose ideas will help improve our communities, state and world. Congratulations to all of this year’s scholars.”

Scholarship recipients must plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study for the entire 2025-2026 academic year and be seeking their first undergraduate degree at an accredited four-year institution in California, or an Historically Black College and University (HBCU) anywhere in the United States. Historically Black College and University eligibility was added three years ago in response to a trend in applications from students admitted to HBCUs, none of which are in California.

Since 2012, the Better Together STEM Scholarship Program has awarded over $7.8 million to accomplished students, all charitable donations from PG&E shareholders, not customers.

In addition to the Better Together STEM Scholarship Program, PG&E’s 12 employee resource groups (ERGs) and three engineering networking groups (ENGs) award scholarships to help offset the cost of higher education. The funds are raised entirely from employee contributions through direct donations, fundraising events and the company’s employee giving program known as Campaign for the Community. Since 1989, more than $6 million ERG/ENG Scholarships has been raised and awarded to thousands of our hometown students.
