ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - As homecoming season continues, so do the theatrics of it. There are spirit week, building floats, having a parade and the football game as the final show before the dance.

Two high schools again this week had their homecomings, Sheldon and Cosumnes Oaks. Sheldon played Franklin while Cosumnes Oaks played Laguna Creek.

Franklin High School, coming off its homecoming game loss in the previous week, was looking to spoil a different school’s homecoming. Sheldon was looking for its first win of the season during its homecoming game.

Once the game started, Franklin jumped out to an early lead. The Wildcats were able to capitalize on Sheldon’s mistakes and turn them into points.

However, the first half of the game and the second half were completely different. Although Sheldon was down, the Huskies did not stop fighting and were able to stop Franklin from scoring in the entire second half.

Even though Sheldon’s defense was able to prevent points in the second half, Sheldon’s offense was unable to get going and capitalize in any way. Franklin didn’t need to score again after halftime.

The game ended with Franklin winning 59-0 and spoiling Sheldon’s homecoming. Franklin will play Pleasant Grove next while Sheldon will play Cosumnes Oaks on Friday, Oct. 10.

Also on Friday night, Laguna Creek was looking to spoil yet another homecoming in back-to-back weeks while Cosumnes Oaks sought its second win on the season.

Cosumnes Oaks struck first, scoring the first touchdown of the game and taking a quick early lead. However, Laguna Creek was able to fight back, scoring two touchdowns of its own to take the lead 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Once ahead, the Cardinals kept applying pressure throughout the game, with their offense scoring and their defense not allowing any points.

The game ended with Laguna Creek winning 30-14 and spoiling another homecoming. Laguna Creek will face off next against Elk Grove High School in its homecoming game, looking to keep its two-game win streak intact.
