ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Pleasant Grove High School played the first homecoming game of the year for all high schools in Elk Grove on Friday, Sept. 19.

Homecoming is one of the major events in high school. It is also one of the first major events, so every student is going to want to show up and give support to the football team before the dance the next night.

Leading up to the game and the dance, the school is going to be involved with multiple things, like having spirit week to show school spirit, building floats for the homecoming parade and having the actual parade itself.

The football game is something that everyone has a chance to come and see, having former students and athletes come back and support the school and the teams they used to play for.

With homecoming being one of the most important games of the year, the energy was high. And this was not just a homecoming game for Pleasant Grove or just a regular game for Sheldon.

This had already been a meaningful game for both teams as they share the same home stadium, and having the winner be named the true home team.

Pleasant Grove had come into the game showing extreme confidence and high energy from the first snap of the game until the last. Executing both on offense and on defense. Constantly scoring on offense while constantly stopping Sheldon while on defense.

Although Sheldon was fighting the entire time, they could not get anything started on their end whether it was on offense or defense.

Pleasant Grove was able to take care of business for their homecoming game, beating Sheldon 64-0. This advanced Pleasant Grove to 4-1 on the season while dropping Sheldon to 0-5.

Pleasant Grove is heading into its bye week, where they will rest up and get ready for Monterey Trail on Oct. 3. The next team Sheldon plays is Monterey Trail as well. Sheldon plays them on Friday Sept. 26.

The rest of the high school homecoming games will be played for weeks following Pleasant Grove’s. Elk Grove High School and Franklin High School have their homecoming games on the same day, Sept. 29. Elk Grove will play Cosumnes Oaks High School and Franklin will play Laguna Creek.
