ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce has named Louis Silveira the 2025 Elk Grove Citizen of the Year.

Among the nominations, Silveira was recognized as an immeasurable supporter of Elk Grove events and someone always willing to help others.

Originally from Woodland, Silveira’s family officially moved to Elk Grove in 1955, where they lived on a ranch off Calvine Road. He attended Elk Grove Elementary and graduated from Elk Grove High School.

After serving four years in the Navy as a medic, Silveira pursued a career in the medical field, working at UC Davis Medical Center and UC Davis School of Medicine from 1973 to 2013.

In 2008, Silveira launched a newsletter sharing classmate updates and Elk Grove history, which has since grown to more than 2,000 subscribers annually. Known as the Elk Grove High School Update, it has become a valued source of community connection.

Silveira also plays an active role in preserving and sharing local history. He serves as the Elk Grove Historical Society’s webmaster, archivist, photographer and Stage Stop Gazette Newsletter editor. Silveira is the assistant director and scheduler for the Rhoads School, a member of the Elk Grove Native Sons of the Golden West Parlor number 41 and a member of the Elk Grove High School Multi-Class Reunion Committee.

The Citizen of the Year award honors an Elk Grove resident who has provided outstanding volunteer service to the community. Silveira will be recognized at a banquet ceremony on Nov. 3 at the Elk Grove Park Pavilion.
