ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The Cosumnes Community Services District Fire Department is proud to announce that it has received Accredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI), placing it among just over 340 fire agencies worldwide recognized for meeting the highest standards in service, performance and continuous improvement.
“This accreditation is a reflection of our district's commitment to excellence, continuous learning, and community service,” said Fire Chief Felipe Rodríguez. “It wasn't just about checking boxes; it was about challenging ourselves to be better. The process gave us a chance to evaluate everything we do, build on our strengths, and identify new ways to protect lives and property more effectively.”
The Commission on Fire Accreditation International accreditation program, administered by the Center for Public Safety Excellence, is a comprehensive and voluntary process that evaluates fire and emergency service agencies against 250 rigorous performance indicators. These indicators span governance, administration, risk reduction, operational readiness, training and resource management.
To achieve accreditation, the department completed a multi-year self-assessment followed by an extensive peer review by external fire service professionals. The process helped identify operational efficiencies, enhance accountability, and strengthen sustainable practices; all of which contribute to improved public safety outcomes.
“We are incredibly proud of the members of Cosumnes Fire for achieving this major milestone,” said Cosumnes Community Services District Board President Angela Spease. “This recognition shows the public that our fire department operates with integrity, innovation, and a relentless drive to serve. It builds confidence in the high standards we hold for public safety in our community.”
“Achieving accreditation in both the fire department and the parks and recreation department is a testament to the outstanding work of our staff," said Cosumnes Community Services District General Manager Tim Ogden. “It shows that whether we’re responding to emergencies or enriching lives through recreation, our district is committed to meeting the highest professional standards for the benefit of our entire community.”
Accredited agencies must submit annual reports and undergo a reaccreditation review every five years to ensure continued compliance with Commission on Fire Accreditation International’s evolving standards.
