ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Hal Bartholomew Sports Complex held the 2025 Western National Championships for Senior Softball USA from Aug. 1 through Aug. 3. This tournament held three divisions playing round-robin games for seeding before heading into the championship bracket.

The Men’s 55+ Major Division and AAA Division, plus the Men’s 40+ Master’s Major Plus Division all played in the tournament.

Each team in each division was competing to win the championship and to qualify for the World Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada, the next Senior Softball USA tournament held Sept. 18th through Oct. 5. There they will compete against the Eastern National champions in each division.
Not only do they qualify for the World Championships, they will also qualify for the Tournament of Champions that is held in Florida next January. It is the most prestigious tournament in the country.

Each team consisted of 10-20 players that all needed to be registered before playing in the tournament. There was a diverse range of backgrounds, from those who played in high school all the way up to players having the chance to play professionally.

Tyler Beuerlein is one of the players in the Men’s 40+ division who had a chance to play professional baseball and was drafted in 2001 by the New York Mets. This shows how high the competition is within these tournaments. “A lot of these guys play year-round. So they’re playing in a conference, they’re playing at a high level, so they’re ready to go,” Beuerlein stated.

Not only is there a chance for players to continue high level competition, but it’s an opportunity to connect with friends and families.

“It’s a different environment when you are in your 20s and 30s; there’s more of a family camaraderie,” said Tiffany Peck, director of rules and rosters for Senior Softball USA.

There is importance in winning and playing at a high level and the  importance of having fun. The men that come out  to play do it for the love of the game and enjoying the presence of their own team and families. They surround themselves with similar people who have the same goals and aspirations when it comes to playing softball.

“I think our team’s done a really good job keeping really good people together. They play really well together and put the team first,” Beuerlein said.
