ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) – Are you currently a high school student interested in learning more about law enforcement and building relationships within the field? The Elk Grove Police Department is calling all high schoolers to get hands-on experience through its Youth 411 program. This is a great opportunity for high schoolers in the Elk Grove area to learn from and connect with the local police department.

Youth 411 is a new program developed to engage students in a variety of topics designed to foster relationships, trust and understanding between law enforcement personnel and teens, according to the Elk Grove Police Department’s website.

Similar to the department’s Citizen’s Academy, which is for residents over the age of 18, participants in the Youth 411 program will have an opportunity to gain an understanding of police operations through specialized presentations, hands-on activities and more. Teens learn about and meet the K9 team, investigations and drone team among other law enforcement sectors.

The program is a six-week academy that will be held at 8400 Laguna Palms Way. It starts June 12 and will continue through July 21. Classes are limited to 20 students per session.

Those interested in participating must be an Elk Grove resident, be between 14 and 17 years old, and be committed to attending all sessions, which will be on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Our Youth 411 is a new program designed specifically with our Elk Grove teens in mind to help build relationships filled with trust and understanding between them and law enforcement. It is similar to our citizen's academy, where they will get hands-on experience and learn about our different units within the department,” said Elk Grove Police Department Public Information Officer Cristina Gonzalez.
