Celebrates Family Health and Fitness Day

SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Sacramento County invites residents to get outside and get moving for Family Health and Fitness Day June 14, with a variety of fun, free activities taking place throughout the regional park system.
To celebrate, Sacramento County Regional Parks is hosting a series of events designed to encourage physical activity, wellness and quality family time. From group fitness and guided walks to outdoor games and health resources, there is something for everyone.
In addition to county-hosted activities, Sacramento County Regional Parks is also promoting community-led events happening in our parks, highlighting the many ways that local organizations help activate public spaces and inspire healthy living.
“Family Health and Fitness Day is all about encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors and make movement a part of everyday life,” said Sacramento County Regional Parks Director Liz Bellas. “Whether it’s a county-sponsored 5k at the Cosumnes River Preserve or a Zumba class at Gibson Ranch Regional Park, we want people to explore our parks and have fun together.”
Observed nationally on the second Saturday in June, Family Health & Fitness Day spotlights the vital role parks and recreation play in promoting health and well-being.
June 14 events at Dry Creek Parkway’s Gibson Ranch include a goat petting zoo from 9 a.m. to noon (free event and free parking), group exercise from 9 to 10 a.m. (free event and free parking, with pre-registration required at regionalparks.saccounty.gov), among several other events.
Bounce houses, face painting, golf introduction and more will be from 9 a.m. to noon June 14 at Cherry Island Golf Course, 2360 Elverta Road, Elverta. This event is free and parking is free.
Over at the American River Parkway, among the several June 14 activities are safe cycling and hiking presentations from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at William B Pond Park, 5700 Arden Way, Carmichael. Free presentations are every hour from form 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
