ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Summer is here, which means being outside more, taking part in summertime activities and enjoying the warm weather. Start the season on a secure note by learning about the public agencies that help keep our community safe at the 10th annual Regional Safety Day on June 7.
Hosted by the Cosumnes Fire Department and the Elk Grove Police Department, and presented by Kaiser Permanente, this yearly event is meant to proactively engage the public and provide education about local public safety agencies and the services they offer.
About 30 community partners will be at the event with resource booths, interactive activities and displays of equipment used by the different public safety departments.
Agencies, such as the police department, emergency medical services and the fire department, typically have their emergency response vehicles available on-site for attendees to look inside or to ask any questions about how they operate.
CAL FIRE, American Red Cross, California Office of Traffic Safety and SMUD are among those agencies that residents can visit.
Simone Nazzal, public education specialist for Cosumnes Fire Department, said that this event attracts several thousand people each year.
“Last year we had approximately 3,000 people come out and we saw a lot of families,” said Nazzal. “We encourage people of all ages to participate and learn more about organizations specializing in life safety and how they reduce community risk.”
Even the four-legged companions, service dogs and patrol horses, who assist the public safety agencies, will be at the event for folks to interact with.
The event’s program highlights are the K-9 demonstration, two helicopter landings and a live car extrication called the “Jaws of Life”.
Regional Safety Day is a free event for anyone to attend. Food trucks will be available for attendees to grab a bite.
This is a fun, family-friendly experience that gives residents of Elk Grove, Galt and southern Sacramento County hands-on activities, exciting demonstrations as well as an opportunity to create community connections.
The event will be located at Elk Grove Park, 9950 Elk Grove-Florin Road, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 7.
