Sacramento State Signs Former Four-Star Guard Mikey Williams

SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Sacramento State University head coach Mike Bibby announced May 1 that high-profile guard Mikey Williams will transfer from University of Central Florida and join the Hornets for the 2025- 2026 season.

Williams becomes the fifth player to sign with the Hornets since Bibby was named head coach for Sacramento State’s men’s basketball team on April 1. He joins senior forwards Jeremiah Cherry and Shaqir O’Neal, as well as freshmen guards Romari Robinson and Taj Glover. Local product Mark Lavrenov, a forward position, also signed with the program during the early signing period prior to Bibby’s arrival.

Here is Willams basketball career background and highlights: Standing at six-foot-three inches, Willams is a 193-pound guard position originally from San Diego. He played the 2024 to 2025 season at University of Central Florida of the Big 12 Conference, after redshirting with Memphis (American Athletic Conference) during the 2023 to 2024 season. Williams will be joining as a sophomore with the Hornets. He is a four-star recruit out of high school, he was ranked as the number 19 overall player in the nation by 247Sports in the class of 2023.

Also in the class of 2023, Williams was named the number four combo guard in the country by On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. Last season, at University of Central Florida, he played in 18 games (five starts) and missed 19 games due to injury. Williams averaged 5.1 points and 1.9 rebounds for the Knights and scored a season-high 14 points twice versus Iowa State, and at Oklahoma State. He also scored in double figures versus Texas Christian University. Grabbed a season-high seven rebounds at Oklahoma State and versus Kansas State.

Williams did not see any game action at Memphis in 2023 to 2024, earning a redshirt. He was named the 2019-2020 MaxPreps national freshman of the year and after averaging 29.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.6 steals while leading San Ysidro High School (San Diego) to the California Interscholastic Federation-San Diego Section title. He scored a San Diego Section single-game record 77 points with nine three-pointers as a freshman in a 116-52 win over Kearny High School. He played for San Ysidro High School during both his freshman and senior seasons, where he averaged 23.8 points, 9.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds during his senior season. He spent his sophomore season at Lake Norman Christian Academy in Davidson, North Carolina and as a junior, he played at Vertical Academy in Charlotte where he was rated the number one junior in North Carolina. That season at Vertical Academy, he averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.0 assists while playing in showcase tournaments across the country.

Williams is also a social media star, having a combined 5.4 million followers across Instagram and TikTok.

“We’re excited to bring Mikey into the family. He’s an incredibly talented player with something to prove, and this is the right environment for him to grow, both on and off the court,” said Bibby.
