ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Cosumnes Fire Department crews are once again suiting up and hitting the streets for a cause close to their hearts. The 2025 “Fill the Boot for Burns” Drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at the intersection of Laguna Boulevard and Bruceville Road.
Off-duty Cosumnes firefighters will spend the day collecting donations in their boots from passing drivers and pedestrians. All proceeds benefit the Firefighters Burn Institute, supporting critical burn treatment and recovery programs in Northern and Central California.
Since the department began participating in the annual drive 20 years ago, the community has helped raise over $634,752. Last year’s one-day drive alone brought in $29,069, thanks to the generosity of Elk Grove residents.
“This event represents the very best of our community,” said Fire Chief Felipe Rodríguez. “Our firefighters are proud to partner with the public in support of burn survivors and their families. Every dollar dropped in a boot makes a real difference.”
Founded in 1973 by Sacramento Area Fire Fighters Local 522, the Firefighters Burn Institute helped to establish Sacramento’s first burn unit in 1974. Today, the organization funds ongoing improvements in burn care and offers free recovery programs, including camps for young burn survivors.
The Cosumnes Fire Department encourages the public to come out, show support and help fill the boots.
