ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Elk Grove’s 2025 “Fridays in the Grove” series returned on May 2 with “Country in the Plaza,” a lively evening of line dancing and live country music at Old Town Plaza.
The event featured performances by Dancing with Rhonda and the Nor Cal Stompers, along with music from the All Hat No Cattle Band.

Attendees were encouraged to bring low-back chairs or blankets to enjoy the festivities comfortably and learn a few line dancing moves in between songs. Food trucks were on site as well at the free event.

Below is the schedule for the rest of the Friday in the Grove series:

Friday, May 16: Wag n’ Walk: Bring your pooch out to enjoy a variety of dog-centered activities while taking a 1.6 mile walk around the District56 preserve. Pet Club will be on-site with complimentary dog-friendly goodie bags. The Preserve at District56, 9701 Big Horn Blvd.

Friday, June 6: Party on the Plaza: Take a trip to the not-so-distant past when a roller rink is set up at Old Town Plaza. Equipment is provided at the all-ages event and is free to attend. Tikiz on the River will be on-site with a food truck. Old Town Plaza, 9615 Railroad St.

Friday, June 20: Paint at the Preserve: Lend your artistic talents at The Preserve at District56 by adding to the various rock gardens at the site. All ages are welcome while supplies last, with a limit of one to two rocks per person. No food or drinks will be available for purchase at this one, but a water fountain is on-site. Last year the event ran out of paint, so show up early to get your supplies. The Preserve at District56, 9701 Big Horn Blvd.

Friday, July 18: Christmas in July: Christmas comes early in Elk Grove at the Preserve at District56. Take part in a pop-up ice skating rink, enjoy beats from a live DJ and enjoy the festival air six months before St. Nicholas hits the chimneys. All skate equipment is provided (please, wear socks). Waivers are required on-site and guests under 18 will need a parent or guardian’s signature to skate. The Preserve at District56, 9701 Big Horn Blvd.

Friday, Aug. 15: Dive in Movie with CSD: Hang out with Moana and Maui when the Cosumnes Services District brings Dive-in Movie with CSD to the District56 swim complex. Kick back and watch Disney’s “Moana” while enjoying the pool and dodging the late summer heat. Admissions are $8 for anyone 5 and up, $5 for anyone 2 to 4, and kids under 2 are free. The Cosumnes Services District snack bar will be open. District56, 9701 Big Horn Blvd.

Friday, Sept. 5: Silent Disco: Slip on a pair of headphones and dance to your own beat at the Silent Disco at Old Town Plaza. Two live DJs will be on site mixing up the tunes from three different channels and genres of music. Old Town Plaza, 9615 Railroad St.

Friday, Sept. 19: Cultural Dance Lessons: Step into the captivating and graceful world of hula dancing at Old Town Plaza. Begin by watching a live hula dancing performance before instructor Makamae Melia ‘O Polynesia leads a hands-on lesson where you can learn the basic steps and hand movements, as well as the meanings behind each motion. Kona Ice will be on-site as well. The Center at District56, 8230 Civic Center Drive.
