After 23 years, ownership of Mazda of Elk Grove, and Elk Grove Nissan will change hands next month, according to a news release issued on Friday, Feb. 14.
According to the release, John Driebe, majority owner of Sacramento Motorcars, the entity that owns the two dealerships, will transfer ownership to DriveFamilyFirst, LLC and his minority partner, Rob Martinez, who will assume the title of dealer principal and managing partner.
“It has been an honor to serve this community and to build relationships with our customers and employees,” Driebe said. “I am excited to transfer ownership to a friend and current partner…and to see Nissan of Elk Grove, Mazda of Elk Grove, Quick Lube Elk Grove and Elk Grove Custom Collision continue to thrive and make a lasting impact in Elk Grove.”
The transition will occur on March 31 and includes Quick Lube Elk Grove and Elk Grove Custom Collision Detail Spa.
According to the release, the new ownership will “retain most, if not all, of the current employees.”
“We want to assure our customers and employees that the dealerships, service centers and collision facility are here to stay,” Martinez said. “Our focus remains on delivering the exceptional service and care that our community has come to expect.”
Local Taco Bar Named One of Top 100 Eateries in U.S.
West Coast Taco Bar, a taco restaurant on Elk Grove Boulevard, was named one of Yelp’s Top 100 Eateries in the United States last week.
The restaurant, which serves a variety of tacos and burritos, was ranked no. 56 on the list, jumping up from no. 66 in 2023.

Mikuni Acquired by Japanese Firm
Mikuni, a popular Sacramento-area sushi chain with a location in Elk Grove on Bond Road, has been acquired by a Tokyo-based holding company, Vanshow California, a subsidiary of Pan Pacific International Holdings.
According to a statement, the deal will help support Mikuni’s desire to open 50 restaurants by the restaurant’s 50th year. The first location opened 38 years ago in Fair Oaks.
There are currently nine locations across the Sacramento region including Roseville, Elk Grove, Folsom, Fair Oaks and Davis.
There are also plans to open another in El Dorado Hills.
“Our commitment to serving award-winning sushi and spreading love remains the same,” Taro Arai, Mikuni’s owner, said in a message to customers on its Instagram page.
JoAnn Fabric and Crafts to Close
Local craft aficionados might be able to find a sweet deal as JoAnn Fabric and Craft announced plans to close its Elk Grove store last week.
The store in Elk Grove Marketplace on Bond Road is one of approximately 500 JoAnn stores to close across the country following the announcement that the company is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in less than a year and a year after the company went private.
In a statement, Interim Chief Executive Officer Michael Prendergast said the company hopes to find a “path that would allow JoAnn to continue operating as a going concern.”
“The last several years have presented significant and lasting challenges in the retail environment, which, coupled with our current financial position and constrained inventory levels, forced us to take this step,” Prendergast said. “After carefully reviewing all available strategic paths, we have determined that initiating a court supervised sale process is the best course of action to maximize the value of the business.”
