Eagles Shaw, Urias are State Cross-Country Qualifiers

FRESNO, CA (MPG) - Two members of the Pleasant Grove Eagles cross-country team qualified for the 2024 CIF State Cross Country Championships in Fresno, California at Woodward Park on Nov. 30. 
The two participants were sophomores Addison Shaw and Ava Urias who both participated this season in four different events including two miles, three miles, 4000 meters and 5000 meters. 
The first event that Shaw participated in this season was the two-mile event where she ran in a 12:58.1 time at the Pleasant Grove 7th Annual Eagle Run for a personal record. 
This would be the only time all season where she participated in the two-mile event. 
This wouldn’t be the only personal record for Shaw this season as at the 18th Annual Hughson Supercross Invitational in her only participation in the 4000 meters she ran in a 15:57.8 time for a first-place finish. 
The two other personal records came in the three-mile and 5000-meter events where she ran in a 19:37.0 time and 19:14.2 time, respectively.
The three-mile personal record came in the Delta League Championships where she placed seventh while the 5000-meter personal record came at the Kim Duyst Invitational co-host where she placed tenth. It was the 5000-meter event that allowed Shaw to qualify for the state championship as she placed seventh at the SJS XC Sections on Nov. 16 with a 19:36.8 time. 
As for Urias, her lone participation in a two-mile event all season was also at the Pleasant Grove 7th Annual Eagle Run where she also had a personal record with a 12:53.7 time where she placed fourth. 
That was on Aug. 24 and a couple of days later on Aug. 31 Urias also had a personal record in the 4000-meter event with a 15:26.5 time in the Oakmont Invitational. 
In the Delta League Championships, Urias had a personal record and second-place finish in the three-mile event with an 18:41.9 time. 
It was the 5000-meter event where Urias shined and had her personal record in this competition at the 45th Annual Asics Clovis Invitational where she ran a 19:35 time for a 22-place finish. 
For Urias to qualify for the state championship event, she participated in the 5000-meter event at the SJS XC Sections on Nov. 16 with an eight-place finish and 19:36.8 time. 
The event both student-athletes participated at the 2024 CIF State Cross Country Championships in was the 5000-meter event where Urias placed 126 with a 19:39.6 time and Shaw placed 139 with a 19:49.2 time.
