ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) -  The Interfaith Council of Elk Grove successfully hosted its first-ever “Empty Bowls” fundraiser event, aimed at addressing hunger in the community. The event took place on Sept. 21 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church and was attended by over 200 community members. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Al Misbaah Food Bank and the Elk Grove Food Bank.
The Interfaith Council of Elk Grove, comprising religious leaders from various cultures and faiths, aims to foster understanding, cooperation and respect among the diverse religious communities in Elk Grove. The Council’s mission is to promote unity and collective action to support the community’s needs.
Attendees were presented with handmade bowls crafted by students from the Elk Grove Unified School District. Local restaurants, including Dos Coyotes, Jack’s Urban Eats, Todo Un Poco, Brazilian Steakhouse, Mr. Dosa’s and Brick House, generously donated soup, salad, bread and dessert for the occasion. Entertainment was provided by musician Neil Nayyar.
The event was a success, with guests moving from vendor table to table to fill their bowls with food while socializing and enjoying the evening’s festivities.
“We are thrilled with the turnout and the generous support from our community partners,” said Tami Nelson, board member of the Interfaith Council of Elk Grove. “This event highlighted the power of community collaboration in addressing critical issues like hunger.”
The Interfaith Council invites restaurants and organizations interested in participating in next year’s event to contact Mark Jansson at the Interfaith Council of Elk Grove, 916-417-9400.
