ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Smooth jazz and happy music fans filled the Laguna Town Hall Amphitheater on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Local saxophonist Garrett Perkins opened the Elk Grove Fall Jazz Festival with his Garrett Perkins Project, followed by the alto sax and flute-playing dynamo Paula Atherton.
Third up was the soul trumpeter Lin Roundtree, and then headlining bassist and bandleader Julian Vaughn closed the show.
Provisions for sale including lobster rolls, barbecue, banana pudding and lemonade, while a bar served up mixed drinks, beer and wine. A vendor plaza included clothing, music, perfumes and mental-health resources. Patrons brought lawn chairs, shade and community spirit.
The show’s emcees were Brandi Cummings, a KCRA-3 anchor, and Lee Perkins, an R&B and soul host at KDEE-FM.
A crowd of close to 800 attended this second annual Elk Grove Jazz Festival from as far as Texas, said Michael Craft, director of talent and vending for event organizers A.P.EX.
