SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) - Penned in 1787, the American Constitution was last week celebrated by a patriotic event in Folsom.

The festival marked Constitution Week, designated in 1956 as a time for Americans to study national history and reaffirm citizenship commitments.

Regional Constitution education groups hosted the 237th birthday bash. Lions Park in Folsom was the venue. More than 200 visitors heard speakers and viewed exhibits.

“Understanding the Constitution is vital for every American,” said County Supervisor Sue Frost, whose ancestor, Captain George Overmeyer, served under General George Washington in the Revolutionary War. “The Constitution defines our rights and responsibilities. It provides the foundation for our Republic.”

Added co-organizer Kaye Lynn Peterson, “People are aware that things have changed dramatically in our society over recent years. Rights are easily lost when people don’t know what their rights are. The Constitution serves everyone. Our aim is to inspire people to learn more about it.”

Event sponsors included Gorilla Learning Center, Enoch Moore, Avini Health, LeMay Chiropractic, Radiant Light Healing Center, Bouncey House, Action Day Learning Center, John Adams Academy, Sweet Heavens Bakery and Lemonade, Battistone’s Collision, New York Life, Safe Haven Pet-Sitting, How Money Works and MH Enterprises.
