ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - It has already been an exciting summer for Lucan Amituanai, the senior defensive end/defensive lineman from Elk Grove High School. The highly pursued defensive playmaker has received multiple Division I offers this past off-season that include Utah, Nevada, San Jose State and Boise State, just to name a few. With 11 Division I offers in total, Amituanai has had multiple choices for where to spend the next four years playing college football.
Amituanai began his summer leading into his senior year with the Thundering Herd by verbally committing on June 10 to Washington State University. His verbal commitment followed an official visit with the Cougars that resulted in Amituanai calling Pullman, WA, his new home. The three-star pass-rusher was the fourth verbal commitment for Washington State in its 2025 recruiting class.
As the Herd prepares for its upcoming season, Amituanai will not only bring experience to the defensive line but will bring some hype with him as well. Amituanai has recently gotten attention in the state rankings as being among the best players in the state for the 2025 recruiting class in California.
The ESPN 300 currently ranks Amituanai 89th on its 2025 ESPN Top California Recruits rankings. This ranking consists of the best football players in California for the 2025 recruiting class. The ranking also has Amituanai as the 12th best defensive end in the state.
247Sports also has Amituanai ranked in its 2025 Top Football Recruits in California rankings. The Elk Grove senior sits at 159th with an 84 grade.
As a critical piece of the Thundering Herd defensive line, Amituanai’s experience and talent will be a critical piece for Elk Grove this upcoming season. With another competitive season in the Delta League, defensive pressure will be a necessity for a successful year. Amituanai brings all the skills necessary to cap off his high school career with a great season. With his commitment to Washington State already out of the way, all of the focus will now be on academics and leaving Elk Grove High School on a high note. Look for many things to come from this highly talented senior.
