EG Teams Showcased at Boys Cali Live

ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - Various local basketball teams participated in the Cali Live Boys 2024 Tournament from June 28-30 in Roseville.
The tournament featured the Franklin Wildcats, Monterey Trail Mustangs and Sheldon Huskies to showcase their players’ talent in front of scouts against the best teams in California.
This tournament featured scouts from UCLA, USC, Oregon State, Sacramento State, Stanford and Fresno State among others throughout the weekend.
The Wildcats started out rough with losses to St. Monica Prep on June 28 by a score of 56-52 then to Foothill High School from Santa Ana on June 29 by a score of 68-44.
They were able to bounce back in their second game of the day with a win over Francis Parker from San Diego by a score of 62-57 and another win over Natomas by a score of 60-59 to conclude their participation in this tournament on June 30.
A standout player for the Wildcats at this tournament was Aiden Rollins, a guard who is going to be entering his junior year, as many praised him on X.
“Improved feel as a playmaker in half-court and transition situations. 6-3 with a rangy frame and great defensive instincts. Crafty finisher around the basket. Underrated rising junior in California,” contributor to Prep Hoops Devin Ugland said on X.
Rollins also received a shoutout from Brandon Cole on X, a former D2 and junior college coach, as he said he can’t wait for college coaches to tell him that they missed out on Rollins as he impacts winning on both ends while having a 4.0 GPA.
In 30 games this past season, Rollins averaged 15.1 PPG, 4.3 RPG and 3.5 APG for the Wildcats.
As for the Mustangs, they left the tournament with a 2-2 record, beating Mission Bay 74-52, losing to Los Alamitos 89-76 and Liberty 73-66 then closing with a win over Albany 56-48.
Among the top performers is a newcomer to the high school scene, incoming freshman Devaughn Dorrough, who caught a lot of eyes throughout the weekend.
He’s 6’ 7” and was described as skilled, strong and with a high IQ on X from West Coast Preps Sacramento. In the win against Albany, Dorrough had 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, according to the Monterey Trail Basketball X account.
Other top performers, as pointed out by the Mustangs on X, include Rashawn Inglemon with 11.5 PPG along with 3.5 APG, Derron White with 14 PPG along with 3.5 APG and Ahzil Franklin with 12.2 PPG along with 4.75 RPG.
As for the Sheldon Huskies, after returning from Arizona after their participation in the Section 7 tournament, they also concluded their participation in this tournament with a 2-2 record.
It started off with losses to St. Anthony 76-45 and Pacifica Christian 60-58 but got back even with two wins on June 30 to Somerset-Losee of Nevada 58-44 and St. Ignatius 61-48.
With the upcoming No Contact Dead Period, local basketball teams will have to put on pause their summer preparation for their upcoming season.
