Yee, Cook, Singh and Smith were also named to the All-Delta League team. This is the fourth year in a row Pleasant Grove has won the league championship.
The Pleasant Grove girls golf team once again dipped into the red numbers in the third and final Delta League Center match of the 2023 season. Monday the Eagles tamed the Wild Hawk Golf Club’s 18 holes to the tune of a team seven-under-par 353 to win the Delta League championship for the fourth year in a row.
For the second time this season senior Alaythia Hinds led the way for the Eagles winning medalist honors with a seven-under-par 65. Gianna Singh was a stroke behind at six-under 66. On total points for the season the sophomore was named the Delta League Most Valuable Player.
In the first Center match of the season Singh shook the local golf world by carding a 12-under-par 60 at Arcade Creek Golf Course at Haggin Oaks.
On Monday juniors Petra Yee and Sophie Cook each notched one-under-par 71s. Aidie Smith shot an 80, eight-over-par.
The 353-team score may be a record of some sort. Still, Pleasant Grove far outdistanced second place St. Francis’ 409. Franklin was fourth with a 415. The Wildcats were led by Nuri Kim’s 75 and Sam Kaur’s 78.
Cosumnes Oaks carded a team score of 446 and finished in fifth. They were led by Jahzara Vang with a 78.
Next up will be the Sac-Joaquin Section’s Division I tournament on Oct. 23 in Lodi at Micke Grove Golf Club. The top three teams automatically qualified for that event: Pleasant Grove, St. Francis and Davis, but on scores Monday also qualifying were Franklin and Cosumnes Oaks.
Top individuals that will advance to the Divisional round are five golfers from Sheldon: Hana Schubert, Leila Nelson, Jia Li Zhou, Jolin Su and Sarena Nguyen, plus Elk Grove’s Avery Sousa.
The D-I tournament will tee off at 9 a.m. on the 23rd.
