The Wildcats’ Albert Williams competes against Josh Pitts of Rocklin at the SJS D I Championships at Franklin High School.

With 138.5 points, the Franklin Wildcats had the second-highest team total at the Sac-Joaquin Section D I wrestling tournament, edging local competitors Elk Grove by just 1.5 points for second.

The Wildcats hosted the D I tournament over Feb. 8-9, and will send 12 wrestlers to the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters, which take place this weekend.

Del Oro won the D I championship, scoring 160.5 points, and Folsom placed fourth with 127 points.

Andrew Calvert won the D I Championship in the 108-pound weight class after defeating Jack James by fall and the Wildcats had plenty more in the championship rounds across the weight classes.

Hassan Khan won the second championship of the day for the Wildcats, defeating Marcus Curry of Pleasant Grove at 154 by fall.

Malik Lewis won the Wildcats’ third championship of the day by beating Aiden Elko of Jesuit at 184, 17-0.

Edison Alanis placed second in the 128-pound weight class, Albert Williams placed third at 140, at 147 Colby Spencer placed fifth.

Sam Bal placed fifth at 172 and Dylan Meyers placed fourth in the 197-pound weight class, Xavier Escalante placed sixth at 222.

Andrew Calvert, Jackson Calvert, Alanis, Desmyn Williams, Albert Williams, Spencer,Khan, Xavier Camarena, Bal, Lewis, Meyers and Escalante will all test their skills at Masters, which begin at 9 a.m. Feb. 15 at Delta College in Stockton and run through Feb. 16.
