The 35th annual Optimist High School Girls’ Volleyball All Star games are set for Dec. 8, 2018. It will be held at El Camino High School, 4300 El Camino Avenue in Sacramento. The small schools match will start at 5p.m. The large schools match will start immediately following the small schools match. General admission is $10; seniors (65+) $8; students $5; and kids under 12 $3. Club volleyball directors, coaches, and players who wear their school/club shirt/jersey will be offered a discount at the gate.

Five local players were selected for the large schools south roster, all from Cosumnes Oaks and Pleasant Grove high schools, both of which made the NorCal regional volleyball playoffs.

Cosumnes Oaks’ highlight-filled season concluded recently but not before it earned its spot in the CIF NorCal regional finals against Los Altos.

Amaria Kelley and Dalia Mays will represent the Wolfpack, while the Eagles’ Ireland Grubbs, Riley Tishlarich and Shelby Young are scheduled to take the court as well and join their Delta League counterparts.

In the small schools game, the south team will be represented partially by one local player, libero Sakuraku Yamamoto of the Laguna Creek Cardinals.

The small schools north team is coached by Matt MacDonald from Bear River High School. The small schools south team is coached by Paris Kidd from West Campus High School and assisted by Donald Horan from West Campus High School and Carla Borges from Vacaville Christian High School. The large schools north team is coached by Tricia Vidlund from Del Oro High School and assisted by JD Hayes and Eric Fuchino from Del Oro High School. 

The large schools south team is coached by Mike Yates from Ponderosa High School and assisted by Trevin Morgan from Oak Ridge High School and Natalie Wells from Pleasant Grove High School.

The Optimist Girls’ Volleyball Coordinator is John Grix from Rio Americano High School. The Assistant Coordinator is Matt MacDonald from Bear River High School.

Immediately following the first match, the awards ceremony will include an Optimist Hall of Fame induction presentation.
