The Monterey Trail girls’ softball team is one of the countless teams across the United States hoping to continue their spring sports season, but it’s going to be some time before prep sports fans hear an update.

For Franklin varsity baseball coach Bryan Kilby, the district wide shutdown of all academics and athletics throughout the state due to the coronavirus has him thinking a lot about his senior class.

Following a season that had the entire section and more taking notice, Laguna Creek’s Ahrray Young was named Metro League Co-MVP and the Cardinals’ head coach Cody Norman was named Coach of the Year.

Davis High School’s John Rosendale was named Delta League Coach of the Year to round out the league season’s top honors awarded to coaches and athletes.

The Monterey Tail boys’ golf program won’t compete in any more matches for the foreseeable future due to COVID-19 and the California Interscholastic Federation decision to continue postponing spring sport athletics events until further notice, according to their press release on March 17.

Capping off their final Delta League boys basketball season in which they finished in second place before going on to help their team win the Sac-Joaquin Section title, the Sheldon Huskies’ Josh Williams and Xavion Brown were voted Delta League Co-Players of the Year.

After a meeting with its 10 Section Commissioners, the California Interscholastic Federation announced on March 17 that they have not made a decision on the outcome of the spring high school sports season and that the group will meet again April 3 to discuss the topic again.

In their last game before the postponement of the spring sports season due to coronavirus precautionary measures taken by the Elk Grove Unified School District, the Monterey Trail Mustang defeated Florin 7-2 at Monterey Trail High School.
