Richard R McDonald

Richard R McDonald, 92 passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020.  Richard was born on April 3, 1928 to Roderick O McDonald and Kathrine (Le Grande) McDonald in Alameda, California. He had a sister, Virginia.

He served in the Navy from 1946 thru 1948 stationed in Hawaii.  Upon completion of his service he returned to California to attend Armstrong University where he completed his Bachelor's degree in Business. It was while attending Armstrong that he meet the love of his life Mary E Nielsen. They were married on June 23, 1951.

After completion of his schooling he took a job with a pharmaceutical company and returned to Hawaii, where they lived for five years. They then returned to California moving several times before settling in Elk Grove. He made his career in sales starting with pharmaceuticals and later in Real Estate.  

Together Richard and Mary raised Arabian horses and always had a variety of animals on their home place. Richard enjoyed outdoor sports.  While in Hawaii it was surfing, swimming and fishing.Later it was hunting, fishing and biking.  He was a very loving and attentive husband during his wife's extended illness with Alzheimer's. Always protective and nurturing towards her during this trying time.  He was also a devoted father to his four children; Karen, Bruce, Sandra and Eric, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Richard was proceeded in death by his wife Mary, his parents Roderick and Kathrine McDonald, his sister Virginia Davey and his daughter-in-law Debra McDonald.

He is survived by his four children; Karen (David) Vuceta of Nevada, Bruce McDonald of Idaho, Sandra McDonald of Montana and Eric (Kendra) McDonald of Elk Grove, California and his six grandkids; Gordon and Clint McDonald of Idaho, Justin Horning and Cassiar  (Michael) Ladenburg of Montana, Ryan Bissell of California and Scott (Scarlet) McDonald of Spain.  He had two great-grandchildren; Jace and Cooper Ladenburg of Montana.

His family plans to have a celebration of life memorial at a later date.
